Summer Programs at the Library

The Tyler Library will host many exciting summer events. The Tyler Library is located at 201 S. College, Downtown Tyler. Most events are free. The Library is open Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm, Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 1-5pm. For more info call (903)593-7323 or go to



All storytimes will be in Taylor Auditorium.

  • Leeme un Cuento/Read to Me Storytime (children 3-6) is on Mondays at 10:30am.
  • Lap & Play Time (babies up to 18 months) features stories, songs, and playtime with developmental toys at 9:30am.
  • Toddler Explore Storytime (children under age 3) is on Wednesdays at 10:30am.
  • Read Aloud Crowd Storytime (children 3-6 years old) is on Thursdays at 10:30am.


Story Time at Panera

Every Monday through August 14th except July 3rd (10am) Story Time at Panera – Join the fun at this story time for children ages 3-5 at Panera Bread, 5755 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler. This is free to attend.

Summer Movie Matinees

July 31st-August 4th (10:30am and 2pm ) – Family Movie Week – Popular feature length films will be shown on the library’s big screen for everyone to enjoy. A different movie will be featured in each time slot. For movie titles and info go to, call, or email the library.


Teen Tuesdays

Teen Tuesdays will return September 5th, 4:30-5:30pm


Third Sunday of every month (2-4pm) Liberated Bookworms – Join the new Liberated Bookworms Book Club featuring African American writers. July selection: Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.

Every Monday (4-5pm) – Adult Coloring – Enjoy a relaxing and stress free session of coloring twice a month. All materials are provided.

Every Tuesday (10am-1pm) – Quilting Class – Learn the art of quilting at the Library. Class participants will complete individual and group quilting projects. Fabric and quilt patterns will be provided. Participants are asked to provide their own sewing machines, if you have them, scissors, and neutral or white thread. Every Tuesday (5:30-6:30pm) – Evening Meditation – Learn the practice of Heartfulness Meditation with Gayathri Kambhampati.

Every Wednesday (5:30pm) – Gentle Yoga – This gentle yoga class will be taught by Meagan Vrba who is certified in yoga, CPR, and first aid. You must bring your own yoga mat.

Every Saturday (11am-12 noon) – Crochet Classes will be held in the 3rd floor Internet Center Workroom. These are free classes. Learn to crochet with Library staff and volunteers. All materials are provided. All experience levels are welcome.

Every second Saturday (2:30-3:30pm) – The East Texas Genealogical Society – The East Texas Genealogical Society meets in the Taylor Auditorium the second Saturday of every month.

Third Saturday of every month (11am-12 noon) – Beginner Computer Classes – The Library offers computer classes for the beginner. Classes will cover basic computer knowledge, email basics, job search basics, and how to write a résumé. Seating is limited to 10 participants. Registration is required.

Last Tuesday of every month, August 29th (10-11am) – Club Read – Join the Club Read group in discussing this month’s read “Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell.

August 4th and 18th (1-3pm) – Veteran’s Movie – Join this biweekly screening of movies presented especially for our veterans. This free event is held the first and third Friday every month.

Free Bus Rides will be Through August 31st

Show your Tyler Public Library card and get on or off the bus at the bus stop located in front of the Fair parking garage, which is closest to the Library. Only one library card per family is required.

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, over 18, at all times. Transit and transfer passes are free for children up to age 18, only to and from library. Adult passes are $1 each.
