Registration is open for the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Tyler Race for the Cure® set for Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Bergfeld Park. This year’s Race co-chairs are Angie Loosely and Danielle Sepulveda. Their goal is to further the Komen mission by reminding our community that it takes everyone to help raise awareness and funds to help the medically underserved get the breast health screenings, education and resources they need.
The Komen Race Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. This is the largest event for our community to celebrate breast cancer survivors, honor those we have lost, and serve those in need. Breast Cancer Survivors who wish to be recognized will receive a pink SURVIVOR t-shirt as part of their registration. Beginning at 7am breast cancer survivors will be treated to a breakfast during their celebration on the tennis courts at Bergfeld Park, followed by the survivor group photo which will take place at 8am. In addition, all participants are encouraged to wear “in memory” or “in honor” back signs, honoring loved ones for their strength and courage. This is one of the signature traditions that make the Komen Race for the Cure® so unique.
Call (903)561-6992 or visit komenectx.org to register or to find more information about the 2018 Race for the Cure®. Online registration is open and continues through Friday, May 11th, 2018. Along with a registration form, participants are encouraged to download a pledge sheet for the Power of 10 and help raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Tyler Race for the Cure®. Donations through fundraising are a substantial part of our revenue each year. Every dollar raised goes toward screening mammograms, education and research.
Online registration is $30 Adult (18+), $30 for Survivor, $20 for youth (up to 17 years of age), and $30 Sleep In for the Cure.
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from the Komen Tyler Race for the Cure® stay in the local community to fund breast health screenings and educational projects. The remaining twenty-five percent is used to fund national research projects. Sponsorships for the Race are currently being accepted, with packages starting at $500.
The Susan G. Komen promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Our vision is a world without breast cancer. For more info visit komen.org or call 1(800)-GO-KOMEN.
SAVE TONS on Pet Microchips This April
$5 Pet Microchipping in April
The Tyler Animal Shelter is offering discounted microchipping prices of $5 through the month of April, plus a one-day discounted rabies and microchipping event.
This year, the $5 microchipping is through the month of April at our 4218 Chandler Hwy location, not 3393 W. Grande.
The Rabies Vaccination and Microchipping Clinic will be April 26th at Fun Forest Park, 2000 N Forest, starting at 6pm.
“Filling out the paperwork takes longer than the actual microchipping,” said Shelter Manager Shawn Markmann.
“If your dog gets lost or gets picked up, then you have an identifier to get your pet back to you, and if your animal is stolen it also helps retrieve ownership,” Markmann said, adding that all of the animal control officers have microchip scanners on their trucks to help find the owner before they go into the shelter.
The Tyler Animal Shelter also is accepting donations to help the pets in their care. Dry pet food is accepted as part of its pet food bank program, which has given out 1,500 pounds of food since its inception. The food is given to families who want to give up their pets because they cannot afford to feed them. Other donations needed include white towels of any size, stainless steel food bowls, and hard rubber chew toys, similar to the Kong brand toys.
