YA’LL COME!! CHECK OUT THE NEWLY RENOVATED AFRICAN OVERLOOK and FEED GIRAFFES
What: You will want to be sure to check out the Caldwell Zoo’s newly renovated African overlook area with all its amenities. And you can even feed a giraffe! Not only is construction complete on the overlook, but our giraffe feeding station is ready for visitors. Zoo guests can feed our giraffes a boat of 3-4 lettuce leaves for just $5.00. The feeding station is open daily, but is closed from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. (Inclement weather may necessitate keeping the giraffes inside to keep them safe.)
Background: Fall of 2015, the Caldwell Zoo announced a very ambitious renovation project. This almost $7 million re-construction brought many changes to the African overlook area—the elephant yard was increased from 1,041 square feet to 4100 square feet while their pool used to hold just 23,700 gallons and now holds 150,000 gallons; for the first time ever, zoo visitors can feed the giraffes leaves of lettuce from the giraffe feeding deck; the Chakula Café is totally new with indoor seating as well as 200 outdoor seats; the restrooms are brand new; and the serpentine walkway that leads to the overlook is open and meets ADA guidelines.
