In honor of the late artist Marty Zewick, more than 100 of her friends and patrons contributed $10,000 to assist a visual artist who has demonstrated consistent creative ability and is serious about a professional art career. The winner may be one who is just starting their career or that is more established but held back from the pandemic this past year or other challenges and needs a helping hand to get back on track.

Zewick was a champion of the arts and one of the founders of the Edom Art Festival, a Texas event organized by artists now in it’s 49th year, as well as the Edom Craft Community. She was one half of the jewelry-making team Zeke & Marty, and was a life-long creator and intimately knew the struggles of establishing and sustaining an art practice.

This one-time award will be given to an artist who resides in the Upper East Side of Texas (75 zip code) and who has defined and finished work. The monetary intent of the award is to boost an artist to a more secure level of professionalism and they will gain exposure at the Edom Art Festival this year taking place October 9 and 10.

The deadline for submission for the award is August 31, 2021.

The Marty Zewick Artist Award is a project of the local non-profit Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District Foundation. Artists can find qualifications and the application on the organization’s website at vanzandtacd.com/marty-award.

For more information, applicants can email Ruthann Askew at rdaskew@aol.com or call (214) 707-9512.
