UT Tyler to Host East Texas Archeology Conference Feb. 23

The University of Texas at Tyler announced today that the 26th Annual East Texas Archeological Conference will be held 8am – 4:30pm Saturday, Feb. 23, at the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center.
East Texas Paleoindian archeology will be the theme of the conference, which will be presented by UT Tyler Center for Social Sciences Research. The event will be open to the public. Admission will be $20 and will include lunch. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
“We have the privilege of bringing three keynote speakers and several other presenters from across East Texas and surrounding regions to this year’s conference,’’ said Dr. Thomas Guderjan, UT Tyler chair and professor of anthology. “This will be a great opportunity for the community to come and hear about the latest in archeological research.’’
Keynote speakers, and their topics, will include Dr. Michael Waters, “Forging a New Understanding of the Late Pleistocene Peopling of the Americas’’; Dr. Michael Collins, “The Earliest Texans at Gualt’’; and Dr. Amanda Evans, “Investigation of Buried and Submerged Prehistoric Archeological Landscapes Off the Texas coast.’’
