Caldwell Arts Alliance Celebrates Black History Month

City of Tyler partners with Caldwell Arts Alliance to celebrate Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, the City of Tyler and Caldwell Arts Alliance have collaborated to organize a series of events throughout February. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Our Story – The Voice of the Community,” which seeks to highlight the stories and experiences of our Black community.

Events

Our Promise – College and Career Showcase is taking place on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Tyler Square. The event will highlight opportunities in higher education, entrepreneurship and social organizations. Local Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and area colleges and universities will have booths to showcase different educational possibilities.

Our Faith – Sunday Service in the Park is a worship service at Bergfeld Park, located at 1510 S College Ave., on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The non-denominational service will be an uplifting experience, highlighting the importance of the church to the Black community.

Our Dance is a campus arts integration showcase on Friday, Feb. 23, at Caldwell Arts Alliance, located at 331 S College Ave., from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Guests will take a walk through the halls of the school, seeing different classroom art projects, displays and performances by different Caldwell specialty classes. The event will conclude with the performance, “Our Dance,” by members of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre at 6:45 p.m. with Caldwell Unite opening. Tickets must be purchased to watch the dances. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased here.

Our Legacy – First Black Family, a recognition and awards banquet, is happening Friday, March 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Willow Brook Country Club at 3205 W Erwin St. There will be community and arts-based awards given out to recognized achievements in Tyler’s Black community. City Councilmember Dr. Shirley McKellar will also narrate a project with the First Black Family of East Texas during the event. Tickets cost $75 or $500 for a table sponsorship and can be purchased here.
