The Tyler Animal Shelter is offering 1,000 free microchips and registration for any cat or dog.
Tyler Animal Services will implant and register pets’ microchips or confirm an existing microchip is registered correctly at no cost. Pet owners do not have to be residents of the City of Tyler to participate.
Microchipping is a permanent identification for a pet if it becomes lost. The microchip alone does not ensure that pets will be protected; it must also be properly registered.
“Microchipping pets helps to reduce shelter overcrowding and lower euthanasia rates,” said Director of Animal Services Shawn Markmann. “A microchip also greatly improves a pet’s chances of being returned to its owner.”
Interested pet owners can bring their furry friends to the Tyler Animal Shelter located at 4218 Chandler Hwy. Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. until supplies last.
