After years of anticipation and meticulous planning, Caldwell Zoo is excited to unveil its groundbreaking and beautiful Amazon River’s Edge!
This 7-acre immersive adventure, built on the Zoo’s oldest original grounds, is now open to the public, bringing the wonders of the Amazon rainforest to East Texas in a truly amazing way.
“After 4 years of planning, design and construction, Amazon River’s Edge is finally a reality,” says Scott Maddox, Chief Operating Officer.
“We’re all thrilled with how everything turned out. This is the most extensive project in Caldwell Zoo history and it proves to be well worth the wait. All of the teams involved – architects, engineers, landscaping experts and animal care professionals, have done an outstanding job in bringing this vision to fruition in such a spectacular fashion.”
We’ve built a real slice of the rainforest right here in Tyler. Guests are transported to the vibrant heart of the Amazon where they discover a wonderful variety of animals in thoughtfully designed habitats that were created to support the health of the animals and provide special enrichment opportunities. As you cross the pedestrian bridge, prepare to be greeted by the colorful macaws, a delightful introduction to the Amazon’s brilliance.

Adding to the experience, Amazon River’s Edge features a new meeting space, a special “flex habitat” and the Exploration Station to support educational programs.
