Celebrate World Tiger Day at Tiger Creek

July 27th, come out and celebrate World Tiger Day at Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary, located at 17552 FM 14, Tyler. For more info on this event, go to tigercreek.org.

From 10am-3pm, enjoy food, games, a water slide, snow cones, a dunking booth and much more. Learn more about the big cats by attending informational sessions at either 10:30am or 2:30pm. The big cats love playing with watermelon, so everyone who brings a whole watermelon will receive $5 off admission (limit one per person).

The Dunking Booth will feature Tiger Creek’s staff, so pick your favorite staff member and purchase as many dunks as you want. It’s going to be a scorcher so we’re sure they won’t mind. All proceeds benefit Tiger Creek’s Big Cat Enrichment Program.

This day-long event celebration will feature a concept called “enrichment” which is meant to improve the cats’ environment and care based on their natural behaviors and instincts.

For years Tiger Creek has rescued an assortment of diverse species, and offered extended rehabilitation and conservation efforts to the world, providing a safe and secure environment for animals in need of rescue or rehabilitation while conserving endangered and threatened species. Tiger Creek offers guided and self-guided tours along with membership packages. Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides a forever home for unwanted big cats. They currently have 38 cats of 7 different species in their care. Tiger Creek was founded in 1995 by its parent foundation Tiger Missing Link Foundation. Their first tiger, Sammy, was rescued in 1997, and they officially opened to the public in 1999.

Tiger Creek’s educated staff and interns give guided walking tours through the facility. Each cat has their own story of how they came here to Tiger Creek. Any and all questions are welcome. The tour generally lasts 30-45 minutes. After the tour is over, guests are welcome to hang out and enjoy the cats on their own. Many people develop a liking for a particular cat and enjoy going back to visit with them. Picture taking for private use is welcome. They also have a gift shop and outdoor picnic area. The refuge is available for school field trips and group outings.
