5 reasons to play SnowRunner in 2022 friv game
The off-road conquest simulator SnowRunner was released in the spring of 2020, and deservedly received high marks from us: it turned out that crawling through the mud at a snail's pace is just as interesting as racing along the freeway, almost taking off into the sky. Since the release of the game, Friv2Online Studio has been actively developing it, and now SnowRunner has many times more content than it was at release. This, in our opinion, is a serious enough reason to return to the game and tell why it deserves your attention.
SnowRunner develops according to the season system: at the moment, six seasons have already been released, each of which is dedicated to a specific topic. For example, the first is focused on finding old vehicles: after restoration, cars will take up space in the player's garage. And the fifth one opens a chain of missions to restore the factory of the legendary TATRA.
Seasons add new locations to the friv game, and we are not talking about small DLC maps, but about territories comparable in size to areas from the base game, or even surpassing them. And quite interesting: for example, here you can try to conquer the impassable swamps of the Kola Peninsula, the Amur and Rostov regions in Russia , explore the unexplored corners of the Canadian Yukon, test yourself on the impassable roads of the states of Wisconsin and Maine in the USA .
And, of course, each area has unique conditions. The authors, assuming that the players have coped with the challenges of the original game, have complicated the test. Some territories are real virgin lands, where there is not even a hint of roads. It will not be easy to overcome them, not to mention the completion of tasks. This is both a big problem with new content - not all players are ready to face such difficulties - and its dignity, because high complexity causes sports excitement and a desire to cope with a recalcitrant game.
Along with the new locations in SnowRunner, an expansion of the fleet followed. And quite serious: Saber Interactive added new cars to the game in all categories, from nimble scouts to heavyweights.
The developers failed to obtain a license to use the models of the Russian automobile industry, therefore, in the outlines of the Azov brand trucks , the products of the MAZ and KamAZ factories are easily guessed, the Voron resembles the KrAZ, and the KHAN is outwardly indistinguishable from the UAZ.
With American-made cars, the situation is simpler: licensed trucks manufactured by Ford, GMC, Hummer, Caterpillar, Chevrolet and other popular brands are used here.
The cars added to the DLC greatly expanded the possibilities of exploring the world and working in off-road conditions. For example, the nimble Jeep Wrangler scout has unrivaled power in its class and is able to get anywhere. The compact Caterpillar TH357 makes it easy to handle loads where cranes are not available. The KRS 58 Bandit justifies its all-terrain vehicle class with increased maneuverability, and its crane is useful for loading and unloading cargo. The Aramatsu Forester Heavy Truck is built for logging, and its swiveling cab will make it easy for you to load if you prefer to play in a first-person perspective .
In addition, the authors added a lot of customization items to the game , which were so lacking in SnowRunner at release. The driver's cab is no longer empty: you can put a figure of a parrot or a dachshund with a bobbing head on the dashboard and stick a few stickers, and place beautiful curtains or a funny amulet under the windshield.
You can also decorate the truck from the outside: airbrush the hood (it’s interesting that the game has a lot of graffiti corresponding to the “Russian” theme), stick stickers on the windshield, decorate the radiator grille with a steel figure, or even completely repaint the car with a unique print - for example, in US national flag style.
And it doesn't matter that only you and, possibly, your co-op partners will see these decorations - car customization plays an important role in creating the right atmosphere and mood.
SnowRunner is not a story game. And there is no coherent script in it. Each area has its own tasks and challenges. And many of them are quite interesting, both the main ones, which are issued by large corporations, and the side ones, from farmers and workers.
Major players set global goals. Their tasks are distinguished by their scope and huge amount of work. For example, in the Amur Region, the game offers to prepare the cosmodrome for a rocket launch . In Yukon, you have to explore the world in search of useful resources and build a gigantic processing complex from the obtained materials. And in Maine, a sawmill and fuel station need to be rebuilt, collapsed tunnels repaired, and a motel refurbished to revive the area's tourism business .
Orders from local hard workers are more modest, but no less interesting. By doing them, you feel that you are helping people. Tom needs to get a truck stuck in a swamp, another needs to deliver lumber to repair flood-affected buildings, and a third wants to compete in the passage of a difficult route. The only pity is that the NPCs were never delivered to SnowRunner, so interaction with them comes down to reading the list of quests.

Custom mods are another great reason to jump into the friv game. SnowRunner lends itself well to modding, which has motivated enthusiasts to create hundreds of add-ons that simplify gameplay and make it more difficult, adding new cars, changing balance and other mechanics.
There are a lot of mods in the game, and the tools for searching and selecting them are built directly into the main menu. Here you can sort the mods into different categories and put together your own "hodgepodge" that will give you the experience you want to have.
Need new cars and trailers? The list of modifications includes models for every taste, even a motorcycle , even a tank. Not enough money to buy trucks? There is a mod that will replenish the in-game wallet with a couple of million dollars. Do you think that the fuel consumption in the game is unrealistic? As a result, you will be able to play the way you like, with the level of challenge that suits you.
